During the golden age of the early 20th century, Argentina looked to Europe as the great model to follow, adopting its customs, ways of life, and also its architecture. Buenos Aires then began to transform into a cosmopolitan and imposing city, deeply inspired by Paris and the great European capitals, where French academic architecture became a symbol of prestige and power.

Throughout this experience, we will explore the history of the sector and the period known as the “Generation of 80,” a time when Argentina consolidated itself as one of the most important economies in the world. Walking around Plaza San Martín, we will discover how the great families of the porteño aristocracy built their majestic palaces following European models, turning this area into one of the most important political, economic, and social centers of the city.

During the tour, we will analyze, from the outside, some of the most emblematic palaces of Buenos Aires, such as the Paz Palace, the Estrugamou Palace, and the Anchorena Palace, understanding their architectural styles, the stories of their owners, and the sophisticated ways of life of the high porteño society of the early 20th century.

The tour continues along the elegant Avenida Alvear, the former epicenter of Argentine political and economic power, where we will learn the stories, myths, legends, and secrets behind the imposing palaces built by the most influential families in the country. We will also visit, from the outside, iconic residences such as the Maguire Palace, the Duhau Palace, the Fernández Anchorena Palace, the Pereda Palace, and the Ortiz Basualdo Palace.

We will also discover the fascinating history of the Palais de Glace and the legendary Jockey Club in Plaza Carlos Pellegrini, undisputed symbols of the sophistication and social life of the porteño aristocracy.
